Wild Places
Outside of the Arctic, there is still plenty of real wilderness to be found on Earth - thankfully. Such areas often lack trails and huts almost entirely. In the summer, an autonomous multi-day trek with overnight tenting is the only way to explore such areas. In our "Wild Places" special, we explore such backcountry, far away from tourism and the action radius of other organisations. Think of the most remote regions of Lapland and Iceland, undiscovered corners of Patagonia, or the vast mountain ranges of Central Asia.
In Europe and beyond
Just like in our 'Out of the Arctic' trips, destinations in our "Wild Places" series are not limited to particular areas. To find real wilderness, we will venture through Europe's most remote areas, or beyond: Alaska, Patagonia, and Central Asia... There is still a lot of wilderness to be found! Often these locations are special places that the guides have discovered over the years and where we are taking a group for the first time - a real best-off from 228 years of combined experience!
Just like in Greenland we will try to find untouched wilderness. This is the main difference with our 'Out of the Arctic' trips, where we also visit more renown mountain ranges like the Alps and the Pyrenees.
Once only opportunities
These trips will appear on our calendar just once. Each year the destinations will change. This way, we will highlight some new, unknown places annually.
Unique local knowledge
Years of planning preceded our expeditions: our guides have been traveling the world all their lives in search of the most spectacular wilderness. The itineraries on offer are a true "best off": spectacular hiking areas where no one else goes.
Full autonomy
As we will encounter no signs of civilisation, these trips will include multi-day segments in full autonomy. At the start of the trek you will carry all the food for at least 5-6 days in your backpack - supplemented by camping gear and personal equipment. The weight of your pack will easily exceed 18-20kg at the start of the expedition. In addition, the absence of trails slows down our progress. A very good physical condition is recommended for these trips. Previous trekking experience is highly recommended for most expeditions.
